What kind of popcorn should I use for this Creepy Halloween Popcorn treat?
When I make popcorn at home, I buy a bag of kernels and add about 1/4 cup to the bottom of a brown paper lunch bag. I roll the top closed, and microwave for about 1 minute and 45 seconds.
You can also use the following kinds of popcorn:
What is the best way to make popcorn?
There are so many different ways to make popcorn! Use the method that you prefer, have access to, or is easiest for you. Here are a few ideas:
- Air popper
- Glass microwave popper (this method also melts the butter simultaneously!)
- Stovetop
- Microwave bowl
- Microwave prepared packages
- Brown Bag
What kind of candy should I use for the snack mix recipe:
Gummy and hard candy usually work best. Consider the texture of the candy and how you want it to taste with the salty popcorn.
A few ideas:
- Gummy worms or sour gummy worms
- Candy corn and candy pumpkins
- Marshmallows (in Halloween shapes)
- Halloween themed sprinkles
- Spooky gummies (vampire teeth, eyeballs, etc)
- Candy eyeballs
Also consider adding pretzels, nuts, or chocolate morsels to your popcorn treat!
What do I need to make popcorn for a Halloween party or movie night?
- 4 cups of popcorn, popped
- 2 colors of decorating icing (I used orange and purple)
- Candy eyes
- Gummy worms
- Halloween themed sprinkles
How to make Creepy Halloween Popcorn:
- Pop the popcorn kernels
- Add popcorn to the bowl you plan to serve it in. Moving the popcorn after it is decorated can cause the decorations to fall. The taste will be the same but it won’t look as cute!
- Once the popcorn is settled the way you want it in the serving bowl, use decorating icing to drizzle icing color over top of the popcorn.
- Add a second color of icing drizzle.
- While the icing is still wet, add sprinkles (it helps them stick better if the icing is still wet!).
- Add candy eyes. You can stick them right into the icing for display.
- Add any other candy decorations such as candy corn or pumpkins by placing them on top or tossing a few into the popcorn bowl.
- Place gummy worms to display wherever you like them.
- Enjoy!
Do I need to add butter to the popcorn?
The popcorn provides the salty and everything else gives the “sweet” for this combination of flavors. I did not add butter to my popcorn but you certainly can if you prefer! I recommend adding the butter to the popcorn before adding any other toppings.
