Here are 5 things you probably didn’t know about saving money on Amazon:
#1 Amazon Prime/Prime as a GIFT– I’m sure by now you have heard of Amazon Prime and know about the free two-day Prime shipping. Trust me- that is just the tip of the iceberg.
- 30-day free trial
- free two-day Prime shipping
- Access to Amazon Music and Amazon movies (tons of great family and kids titles included! I use it all the time for LeapFrog and Little Einsteins… etc.) 40,000+ titles
- Borrow Kindle Books
Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial
You’ve got to at least sign up for that free trial; it is totally worth it! My Prime membership (now 4 years strong) pays for itself 10 times over just at Christmas. Use it for hard to find items, large items, or simply to avoid shopping trips with your kiddos!
Already have Prime but have a friend who is always asking you to order something for them? You can buy a gift membership to Prime:

One more thing- Did you know that Amazon offers discounted monthly offering for EBT cardholders? Get more info: https://amzn.to/30pEAjw
#2 Free Shipping is more valuable than you may think. Don’t have access to a pick-up truck but need a large item? Order it from Amazon! Many oversized items are included in Prime membership. They may take more than 2-days (depending on the item) but if it’s marked Prime, it ships free. You get your product and you don’t have to beg your brother-in-law to borrow his truck 😉
Here is my example: Last summer we bought a shed. We needed one to replace the exact model that was destroyed when our neighbor’s tree fell through it in a slight rainstorm. (oh yes. I was inside just 5 seconds before it fell and both of my toddlers were running around the yard. Thankfully no one was hurt!) Anyway, the shed was a total loss and we wanted the same model. The model was carried at our local Lowe’s (where we had purchased the first one) but the shipping was $110. I was able to find the exact shed model, 10% cheaper, and included Prime shipping. By ordering from Amazon, we saved double!
#3 Amazon Outlet– Yep. Amazon has an outlet section. Sporting goods, jewelry, clothing, tv, and audio… you name it- there is probably an outlet section for it. You can even sign up for a daily email called Gold Box Daily that will send you the best deals of the day.
#4 Warehouse Deals– Save even more with open-box and pre-owned items! Who knew?! Blu-ray players, laptops, even video games. Most products even qualify for free prime shipping! If you are looking for big savings- this might be your best bet. These deals are constantly changing so check back often!
#5 Special Programs– In additional to Amazon Prime, there are many other special programs to save you money based on your needs.
Amazon Family (previously called Amazon Mom) gives you Prime benefits and also saves you 20% on diaper subscriptions service, exclusive coupons, and baby registry benefits. Join Amazon Family 30-Day Free Trial
Amazon Student– This student membership would be a great gift for Grads. Free 2-day shipping on textbooks and thousands of other items, exclusive student deals, access to Kindle book borrowing, and streaming movies through Prime. It is also only $49 (at the time of this posting) Join Amazon Student FREE Two-Day Shipping for College Students
Wedding Registry– How awesome would it have been to have an Amazon registry to get whatever you need instead of picking out dish patterns from Macy’s! You could have registered for that tv you really wanted instead of another set of wine glasses. You can even add items from other websites. Wish I had this option at my wedding! Shop Amazon – Create an Amazon Wedding Registry
Baby Registry– Imagine having the world’s largest selection of baby gear on your registry instead of being stuck with only what they sell at Babies R Us (and at their prices). Amazon’s baby registry provides discounts, extended return periods, the largest baby selection, and the option to add items from any website (not just Amazon). I recently created a registry and I am so glad I can get what I actually need including things not sold in stores like this Owlet Baby Monitor. You CAN have it all Mom! Shop Amazon – Create an Amazon Baby Registry
Always check with Amazon for exact policies/sales/program details/procedures and with any other questions on their products/policies.
WAIt- I almost forgot about Prime Day! Once a year (in the summer) Amazon holds a day of sales that are better than Black Friday Deals. I’m not going to lie, it is my second favorite day of the year. You have to be a Prime member to get the deals so sign up- 30-day Prime trial
There you have it! Knowledge is saving power!
