Did you ever sit and scroll through your photos like a time hop? Quickly watching your kids grow right before your eyes?
Looking at those photos makes me want to stop time!
Since I can’t do that, I remind myself to hold on to the little moments. Like sticky little handprints on walls and windows.
I just read a quote that said: “A messy room is better than an empty room”. What a profound way to look at the little messes. Sometimes we wish we could put our kids in a bell jar and keep on the shelf. Keeping them young and adorable may not be practical, but we can hold on to their little fingerprints!
I would rather get a handmade craft from little fingers than a bunch of flowers any day, wouldn’t you agree?
I love to write fingerprints poems and I have created a collection of them so now there is a Valentine’s Day one to add to the growing list!
Handmade Valentine gift preschoolers (kindergartners and toddlers too!)can make themselves!

I have made soooo many handprint crafts from my preschool handprint poem collection and I have found some tricks (by trial and error!) that I want to share to make the process as easy as possible for you!
Tips for a successful hand print:
– Use kid-safe washable paints
-Use a paintbrush to paint their hands instead of having the “dip” their hands on paint. It will save you a mess and it makes a better print.
-Keep paper towels handy and cover your work surfaces
~Print more than one copy of the poem since it may take more than one try to get it perfect!
~Card-stock works best for this type of craft
-Talk about the process either the child BEFORE starting the paint. Let them know what you plan to do and what they should do
For this handprint, we talked about keeping our fingers closer to get her and how we would turn the page to make the hands look like a heart. That way they don’t just slam their hands on the paper before you are ready!
-use a “straight down, straight up” process to make the print
~ make the heart-shaped by turning the paper slightly sideways to make the first print, then reposition the paper to make the second side (it’s easier to move the paper than explain to a child how to position his/her hand)
Once the paint is dry, let the child color the page and make it their own!
